Ryan Miller: The Gentlemen
By Imani Jackson, ENGL 336
Ryan, born Ryan Anthony Miller a soft spoken Junior at Frostburg State University transfer from Bowie State University. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland, Miller grew up the youngest of eight siblings, including five older sisters and two older brothers, all raised by a very strong single mother. Miller was 14 years old when he met his father “ I remember answering the door, it was like a movie or something he told me he was my Father and I closed the door went to my mom and told her there's some dude at the door saying he’s my Dad” he and his father have a better relationship today.
When asked what it was like growing up with five sisters he said “It was like growing up with five mothers I couldn’t get away with anything”. Miller believes growing up with five sisters made him into a gentlemen at an early age “I was opening doors and pulling out chairs at like 12”. Being a suave 12 year old he would often get surprised reactions from others from the unordinary amount of chivalry he had at such an early age. What 12 year old do you know that pulls out chairs? Miller grew up a quite kid never one to seek out any extra attention, but growing over six feet tall, weighing over 200Ibs and being deemed a Drake look alike, he is hard to miss.
Some of his hobbies include writing and playing football. Miller played football while attending Milford Mill Academy and went on to play football as a defensive end at Bowie State University. However, being prone to injury or like Miller would say “I would get hurt all the time”, he decided to stop playing and focus on school. After transferring to Frostburg State University Miller decided he should finally chose a major that is something he really cared about. He became a Criminal Justice Major with aspirations in becoming a police officer in the future. Given the tensions between African American Youth and Police officers in Baltimore MD, Miller has questioned his choice of being a police officer. However, having the desire to protect he gained from having five 5 extra mothers growing up outweighed any questions he has had. Ryan Miller is a well mannered gentlemen who enjoys writing, playing football and would like to use the knowledge he has gained in his years at FSU to help/protect people in the future.
