Dominique Elias: The Renaissance Woman
By: James LaDow, ENGL 336
Ms.
Dominique Elias is a woman of many talents, interests, and accomplishments. Elias
is a 21 year old Silver Spring native first-generation college student who sets
her goals high and thinks herself a “colorful person”. Her family is extremely
important to her as she comes from a family full of strong women who she said
shaped her to be the person she is today. She is a recent transfer from
Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia and is currently a mass communication
major with a minor in public resources at Frostburg State University and the
president of Student Support Services
on campus. From a young age, Elias says that “stories were very sacred to me” and
would be telling stories to anyone that would listen. In high school she had a
teacher who had inspired her to want to become a news anchor. Elias’s dream job
is to report hard news because she wants to report the truth and bring light to
stories that would otherwise be left untouched. That isn’t to say that she hasn’t
already thought of a Plan B if she ends up not liking the news anchor job. Her
Plan B would be to work with artists and the branding of their image. Either way,
she’ll be happy as long as she’s making others happy and feel important and is
always determined to do so.
Of
course, college is expensive and is always a worry for any college student and
Elias is no exception. She fortunately has found a summer job that not only
pays quite well, but incorporates one of her favorite hobbies as well. During
the summer she competes in pageants and has made up to $15,000 in one summer
from it. This all ties back into her family again, as she says that the women
of her family are very fashionable and she has said that “being trendy is a
hobby” and follows many different fashion blogs to keep up to date on the latest
trends. Although that isn’t to say she doesn’t have any other hobbies outside
of being trendy. On the weekends she calls herself something of a mixologist
and loves to mix drinks and make up new drinks for her friends. She also enjoys
the outdoors and finds herself venturing out and doing things that range from climbing
trees and rock climbing to kayaking and canoeing.
