What If

What If
By Tiana Buentello, ENGL 336

William Everett, a Senior at Frostburg State University majoring in English, with a concentration in creative writing, chose Frostburg as his school after visiting the campus for summer programs including Upward Bound and having an alumni within his family.
William moved to Barton, MD from Silver Spring, MD when he was only one because his parents wanted a change from the city. William graduated from Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg with the class of 2014. In addition to majoring in English, he is minoring in Graphic Design. The classes that he enjoys most include Creative Writing, Linguistics, Psychology, and Painting. He is also currently the secretary of the Super Smash Brothers Club and writes under entertainment for the newspaper on campus, "The Bottom Line."
Outside of class, William enjoys playing games on his Xbox like Destiny and says that one of his favorite games is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon on the Nintendo DS. He is passionate about writing, and writes creative short stories. “I think that what I enjoy most about writing is being able to create. Taking something you enjoy, which in my case is fiction and storytelling, and being able to make my own version of it, feels empowering, wonderful. I typically draw inspiration for my writing from daydreams and hypotheticals. I'll look at something I've witnessed or experienced, and think to myself, What if?"
Fantasy is his favorite genre to write about, because it allows for the most creative freedom and lets you use your imagination too. “I don't think there was a definite point where I sat down and said to myself ‘I really like writing,’ I think it's something that I got into over time, out of a desire to create. Gaming has always been my favorite hobby, and my favorite games are always ones where I can create things, express myself. I've come to realize that writing is the ultimate form of creative expression.”
William says that after graduation he would possibly like to continue his education and attend graduate school for creative writing. In ten years he says he would maybe like to move away to Seattle, one of the reasons being that it is near Microsoft, and he is interested in a career in video game/software design. He is also interested in pursuing journalistic writing relating to gaming as a career path, using his education and talent in writing wherever he decides to go.
