San Francisco's 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick receives both backlash and support for his choice to remain seated during the national anthem at a preseason game. Kaepernick's says that his refusal to stand is bigger than just football and he refuses "to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." The coach of the 49ers responds to backlash by saying that Kaepernick has a "right as a citizen" not to stand and he cannot take that right away from him.
