Frostburg Football is back on the winning track! Bobcats came out with a tough win putting up 24 under the lights against Southern Virginia University last night. Bobcats were predicted to win big but the SVU Knights came ready to battle to try and seek revenge from last years game against the Bobcats who last season surged passed them with a 42-7 win in Buena Vista, Va. Night games are a ‘rare treat’ in Frostburg as most games are played at 1pm on Saturday afternoons. The weather was perfect for a night under the lights. The stands began to fill up; the sun began to set, and the Bobcats warmed up and prepared to bounce back from last week’s debauchery against Welsey College in Dover Deleware, the league's leading team who beat the Bobcats 43-7 in their week 2 match up. The Bobcats stormed the field as the cannon erupted! Fans were on their feet cheering and eager for the kickoff! The Bobcats came out in the first quarter strong with a touchdown by junior tailback Jordan Brown in the offense's first drive. The defense then took over and came out with a recovered fumble. The Knights then answered back by not letting the Bobcats score. From there the game became flat. Each team attempting to move the ball up and down the field. Bobcats had the next score provided by the defense when they tackled Southern Virginia University’s quarterback in the end zone directing resulting in a safety. Then number 10 Issac Robinson hit a field making the score12-0 at halftime. After the half defense came out full force again only allowing minus 11 yards within just 4 plays in the Knights first drive. Bobcats then took over; with sophomore quarterback Connor Cox with a 12-yard run into the end zone boosting the score to 18-0. Defense again came right back out with heavy forces. With the Knights second possession of the half, Josh Washington Number 9 came out with an interception around the Knights own 35yard line. When offense took over again junior tailback Jordan Brown rushed for the Bobcats last touchdown of the game resulting with another 7 up on the board and 0 still up next to the Knights. Within the fourth quarter with only 6 minutes left to play the Knights finally answered with a touchdown due to a fumbled punt return by the Bobcats in their territory. As the time ticked down the Bobcats were able to hold down the house against the Knights for an overall win of 24-7 in Bobcats stadium. Although the Bobcats anticipated winning by a much greater score, a win is a win giving the Bobcats a record of 2-1 with a 1-1 league record. The Bobcats offense rushed for about 191 yards total while the defense was in heavy force against the Knight’s option offense resulting with a total of 2 fumble recoveries, a pick off a pass and held the offense 12 out of 14 third down conversions. After the game, captain Brian Taylor number 78 had this to say “it was a tough game where we overcame the adversity and won though we have to do a better job of taking care of our inconsistencies as a team.” As week 3 comes to a close the Bobcats will have a bit of off time going into week 4 with a bye. This is the time for the bobcats to rest, recover, and come back ready to fight against league opponent Kean University Saturday, October 1st at 1pm in Union, NJ.
