The Time Travelers

Day two of the Appalachian festival Saturday September 17, 2016 from 10 am – 6 pm consisted of free daytime music and activities. From Old-Time String bands, Arts & Crafts, History Presentations, Food and more. With so many activities and music selections The Time Travelers stood out to me the most.

The Time Travelers performed at the Sowers stage @ Noon. The members of the band are Chuck Sherry, Pam Francis, David Wagoner, Lauren Smith, and Phil Albert. They all contribute to the sounds and musical styling's of this band by playing the stand-up bass, the mandolin, percussion, guitar, and of course vocals; they even have a fiddle player sometimes named Lauren. They all sing on the mic together at one point, but the last set finished off with Pamela Francis singing lead.

The Time Travelers are primarily based out of Hampshire County, West Virginia. The style of music they play is folk, they are keeping folk traditions alive through their heavily built contribution of some of the most traditional sounds, songs and coal mining ballads of the Appalachian region.

David Wagner after one of the songs finished playing he was talking about he was in an area where it was flooding and his guitar and amplifier had gotten the worst of water damage. But, he was able to play today with that same guitar, but, he wasn’t playing with the amplifier but he had it with him. His band mates would accompany him on any missing details of his story and even had a laugh. The Time Travelers all over the Appalachian at Farmers Markets, Benefits, Harvest, Open Houses, Church's, other types of Festivals as well as performing at Relay for Life fundraisers.

The type of audience that The Time Travelers attracted were older crowds of people. The people who were watching were very familiar with who the band members were and have heard them play a couple of times. The audience responded well to the story David Wagner was telling, they found it amusing and even one audience member knew what he was talking about because he would chime in during his story. You could tell that some of the audience members were familiar with the band because after the set was done they would go mingle/talk to crew workers.
