While attending Frostburg's annual
Appalachian Festival, I stumbled across a table filled with stained and fused
glass art pieces. Fused glass is a form of art created when two pieces of glass
are heated inside of a kiln until they become one piece. Stained glass is
another form of glass art in which the creator fused pieces of different
colored glass together to create an image. The pieces of art displayed on the
table were created by the company “Wilson Stained and Fused Glass” located in
Washington, Pennsylvania. When I asked if I could write about their business for
the blog, the couple was so blissful. The company is owned by Tom Wilson and
his wife Judy Wilson, the couple met when they were both employed as math
professors at Trinity Washington University located in Washington, DC. When
asked “How long had they been married?” Judy Wilson stated “We’ve been married
for 24 years.” I asked the two “What made you want to go into the stained and
fused glass business?” Judy Wilson said “The Company that we use to buy our
stained glass from began to sell fused glass, and we became interested in it.”
The Wilsons have been in the business for approximately 22 years. Though the
business is not local the Wilsons still make sure that they participate in the
Appalachian Festival every year. They have been attending and selling some of
their pieces at Frostburg’s annual Appalachian Festival for the past 5 years.
Their merchandise includes things such as:
Earrings
Lanyards with Badge Reel Holders
Necklaces with Beads
Bottle Cheese Plates
