This past Saturday, the
3rd annual Appalachain Festival returned here to the Frostburg State
campus. The Chicken Coup is a new and up-n-coming food truck business hitting
the Appalachain Festival scene this year. Jamie says “this definitely something
she is looking forward to at next year’s festival”
The design of this new food truck is like nothing we have
seen before. It is Bright red truck all around with yellow logo lettering. The
truck has a total of two larger logos on either side and two smaller logos on
the front and back. It is very hard to miss surrounded by the vast green in western
Maryland. The logo that is seen on the truck numerous times, is a huge
attention grabber with its proud fried chicken. The logo has somewhat of a
different look when it comes to the “normal” chicken advertisement we have seen
over the years. The iconic logo is a fired drumstick that has a bite taken out
of it with two stars and a set of wings. This may not be a lot to work with but
this company has done a great job with differentiating themselves from the
other food trucks that occupied the upper quad. Danny Whittlock says The Chicken
Coup is “the best place to find food that’s inexpensive and delicious”
*Fun Fact! The truck
was almost sold 3 months prior to the official opening but the truck would not
start when being shown to the potential buyer
His fairly new business
has been rocking the scene for over a month at the hands of Frostburg’s very
own, Tyler Waren. Tyler attended
Frostburg State for 2 years playing football when he decided he wanted to go to
school to cook and own his own business. Tyler is stated saying his food truck
was influenced by his grandparents very own 55-year-old business. Buck and Ginny (Tyler’s grandparents) opened a
small business in 1961 on Bowery Street right here in Frostburg called the “Hen
House”
*Fun Fact! The truck was originally parents old RV. Tyler(left) and one of
his friendly staff members
This family business is what Tyler says pushed him to go
into business for himself. After working at his grandparents “Hen House” for 6
years, Tyler put his plan in motion.
Fun fact: Tyler actually turned down a nice job so that he
can work for himself and ultimately do what he has always wanted. The Chicken
Coupe sells all things chicken, from chicken wings all the way to chicken
nuggets with everything in between. The best part is that they caters as well. They also feature a variety of sides such
as coleslaw and potato salad. Their menu is
located here. Margret calls The Chicken Coupe “The best fried chicken in
Frostburg”. You can find the booming business on multiple social media
platforms such as their Chicken Coupe Facebook page.
The Chicken Coupe also has their very own website where you can see what’s new with the menu and find out if
they will be in city near you!
