Katie McCartney Can Do It All
By Harry Lichtman,
ENGL 336
Katie McCartney was born in Annapolis, MD. Her family has always lived in Maryland. She has an older brother, J.R., who is 23 years old. McCartney is a senior at Frostburg State University.
She is also a Mass Communication major, but was originally a Theater major because she was in theater in High School.
She took on a bunch of minors that piqued her interest: Journalism, Marketing,
and Events Planning. She can regularly be seen on campus with her friend Sam Metz and her Sorority sisters, or other friends of hers.
One subject in the journalism category that McCartney has a big interest in is photography. McCartney’s father got her into photography. “When I was younger, my dad would let me play with his Canon camera with film in it,” she said. McCartney eventually got her own camera for Christmas. She got a digital point and shoot camera from her parents and would take pictures of everything.
McCartney also said that she takes pictures with her smartphone nowadays, using apps like Instagram, for example. Now she has a Canon EOS Rebel T3i camera. McCartney loves using her new camera, “It is really nice," she said, "I love taking pictures with it of my friend Sam and my Sorority sisters.” She also takes pictures of nature with her Canon.
McCartney also likes writing, film, and media. But besides photography being a big interest, she also likes reading. Her favorite book is Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, who is also her favorite author. McCartney went to the library a lot when she was younger. "My dad would take me to the library and I would get 5 books and read them in a week," she explained. McCartney likes to read fantasy books like Twilight. Harry Potter is also one of her favorite books. Her reading as a kid sparked interest in science fiction as an adult.
In March 2016, McCartney is going to Uganda for the President's Leadership Circle. 12 seniors including her went through a lengthy interview service. 30 people out of the whole senior class applied, while only 12 people were selected. It is safe to say that Katie McCartney is a multi-talented woman. She can do it all!
