Carolyne Jonas is a junior at Frostburg State University with her eyes set on travel. Being an English major (professional writing focus) and a Geography minor, she thought the whole concept on finding connections to how individuals are all born and where they all came from interesting. Jonas enjoys learning about the Earth, soil, and climate, which is just one of the many motivating factors in her wanting to travel in the future. While relaxing and swiveling around in her chair, Carolyne Jonas nonchalantly shared more about some traveling she has done in her life so far, and where she is planning to go next as she continues through life.
Jonas is from Damascus, Maryland in Montgomery County, and she claims that it is "all country." Prior to Damascus, Jonas lived in Gaithersburg which is not too far from her current home, but she prefers the small town environment of Damascus than the big town feeling in Gaithersburg. She likes that everyone knows everyone in Damascus, and comments how living in such a rural area gave her a bit of an accent that she catches once in a while. Jonas wears comfy shorts and t-shirts which serve as a reflection of her relaxing, "country" home in Damascus.
Jonas wants to travel everywhere. When initially asked where she would like to travel to, she answers Hawaii because her aunt had went to school there. Jonas comments that she loves the "beachy; kind of tropical" places of travel, but then on the flip slide loves the winter time. When asked a second time about travel, Jonas adds that she wants to travel to Greece and anywhere in Europe. The most interesting place Jonas would like to travel to is to her father's hometown Mauritius. She describes Mauritius as the small island to the right of Madagascar. The native language is Creole French, which Jonas' father speaks. Jonas shares how her grandmother talks of Mauritius, and about how "clear the water is" and how picking fresh fruit is so easy there. Out of all the places for potential travel, Jonas wants to visit Mauritius the most because it can give her a better understanding of where some of her family came from, and as a geography minor with interest in that she can gain the most satisfaction in her travels.
