Attending this year’s 2017 Appalachian Festival was
my first time here in Frostburg and it was definitely a great experience. The Appalachian
Festival was hosted on the upper quad of Frostburg State University, on Saturday,
September 16, 2017. As a first timer, it is great to see the community in the
Frostburg area to come together to celebrate the Appalachian culture. This
event was very intriguing with all the different tents and what each tent
served. The festival offered live music, a petting zoo, and places where you
can purchase cultural merchandise. Some tents offered different kind of jams,
clay pieces, jewelry and some music records. My friends and I checked out the
different tents and appreciated everything such as the music and the diverse crowd
that came out for the celebration.
The
band I experienced was a group of pipes and drums. The live band offered a
festive feel. The band is very popular in the tri-state area. Also, as I approached
the tents, I noticed a lot of cool artifacts that depict the Appalachian
culture. This festival was not just entertaining, but it was also educational.
In many different ways with the interacting activities and crowd, the festival
had an inviting atmosphere. We can all thank, Dr. Kara Rogers-Thomas and
Frostburg State University for a great Appalachian Festival!
