Kicking off the season right! The Appalachian Festival began Thursday September 14th with the premier of “Look and see” a documentary by well known writer, farmer, and activist, Wendell Berry. "Look and See" was filmed in Henry County, Kentucky where Berry spent most of the mid 60`s farming. Throughout the film his friends and family were discussing their moments and hardships as a farmer. Subjects of what to produce,  how to produce, and where to provide were addressed. The film put emphasis on the the changes of American culture and industrialization. While, the main argument was how Americans values has shifted over the years the film also expressed the hardships of farming and the effects it has on not only their income but, their families. Berry has a complex approach to subjects of culture, race, agriculture, and more. Consisting of 87 minutes those lives that were often overlook were put in the spotlight. The film was preceded by speak and organic farmer , Anthony Flaccavento. 


The premier of the film gathered people from all over the area. There were individuals there who were simply Wendell Berry fans, had family in the farming business, or grew up on farms themselves. One of the theatre`s employees mentioned that he had never seen a crowds quite like this one before. The film gave a special connection to the people of Frostburg and Garrett County.
