Man Stabs Wife to Death and Blames Cough Syrup
Matthew Phelps, a 29 year old man from North Carolina, stabbed and killed his wife in what he calls a "cough-syrup induced stupor". He told police that he took the medicine because it "made him feel good and helped him sleep". The cough medicine consumed was called Coricidin. The couple started dating in 2014 and got married in 2016. Phelps' wife, Lauren Hugelmaier, was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church. The couple had a love for Star Wars and even had a light-saber fight at their wedding reception.
